BATON ROUGE, La. (LOCAL 33/FOX 44) – Travelers are starting to come back to Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport, helping the numbers take flight compared to a month ago.
Passengers are ready to board planes again at Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport. The Coronavirus pandemic had a large number of flight grounded during the Governor’s stay at home order, but that’s changing.
“TSA passenger count going through the checkpoint was under 100 a day everyday in April. In fact, many days in April was under 50 total passengers. In May, it’s grown to well over 100 everyday, most days closer to 200 some days even over 200,” said Jim Cladwell, Airport Spokesman.
Caldwell said both the airport and airlines are taking steps to make sure passengers feel safe flying the friendly skies again.
Caldwell explained, “Extensive cleaning using hospital grade cleaning supplies. Disinfectant fogging which we do every night at the airport and trhe airlines are doing it not only at night, but in between flights to a degree.”
Caldwell added he hopes this trend continues going into the busy summer travel season.
