Baton Rouge native Andrea Gathercole returns home after winning $100,000 at SEC Championship

BATON ROUGE, La. (WVLA/WGMB) — Baton Rouge’s Andrea Gathercole is a grand prize winner of Dr Pepper’s Tuition Giveaway. She took home the $100,000 prize during the SEC Championship Game between Louisiana State University and the University of Georgia.

Gathercole competed at halftime and was tasked with throwing the most footballs through an oversized Dr. Pepper can in 30 seconds. She competed against Max Wunsche, a senior studying veterinary health at Clemson University. 

Gathercole is a Dutchtown HIgh School graduate who is now in her senior year as a biochemistry major at Baylor University in Texas.

After the win, she thanked God, Dr. Pepper and gave a shout out to her friends and family in Baton Rouge, Natchitoches and Waco.
