BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The Walls Project, a nonprofit organization dedicated to tearing down societal barriers, announced it is getting a $6 million grant from the U.S. Forest Service (USDA).
The grant will help the organization launch an agroforestry apprenticeship program.
The Walls Project is collaborating with Baton Rouge Green, East Baton Rouge Parish Housing Authority and BREC in the project. Funding will help provide paid workforce training to support and sustain tree planting and green infrastructure projects that benefit vulnerable community housing populations suffering extreme heat and inequitable access to the urban tree canopy, according to the nonprofit.
