BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A Tuesday, Jan. 10 shooting on Wax Road left two people injured and resulted in at least one arrest, authorities say.

According to the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office, Caleb French, 18, was arrested in connection with the incident.

Homicide detectives say French and two unidentified accomplices met up with a fourth individual to carry out an illicit marijuana transaction at a location in the 17000 block of Wax Road.

But upon meeting up with the fourth individual, detectives say, one of French’s accomplices pulled out a gun and threatened the fourth individual, stating, “You’re being jacked,” in an attempt to rob them.

According to an official report, the fourth individual fired back with a gun of their own and shot one of French’s accomplices. EBRSO says French’s injured accomplice responded by shooting the fourth individual multiple times.

Detectives say French’s injured accomplice and the fourth individual are expected to survive their injuries. According to EBRSO, as of Wednesday, both are still hospitalized.

French was arrested and booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on charges of accessory after the fact to attempted first-degree murder and obstruction of justice.

Additional arrests are expected in connection with this incident.
