The Baton Rouge Police Department is urging people to take safety precautions and follow local laws while ringing in the new year.
Using fireworks of any kind is outlawed throughout East Baton Rouge Parish. Police will confiscate fireworks they catch people discharging, and violators could be charged with a criminal offense, according to BPRD.
BRPD noted the importance of not firing guns into the air, as bullets can fall to the ground with enough force to injure or kill people. Anyone found firing a gun into the air in the parish could be arrested.
BRPD also urged citizens to not drink and drive. All local law enforcement agencies have had officers searching for impaired drivers, according to BRPD.
