Baton Rouge Proud: Archie Williams advances to ‘America’s Got Talent’ finals

Baton Rouge’s own Archie Williams is heading to the finals round of this season’s ‘America’s Got Talent’ on NBC.

Williams captured America’s hearts during the season premiere of the show with not only his powerful performance, but his story; Archie spent nearly four decades imprisoned at Angola for a crime he didn’t commit. DNA evidence exonerated him in 2019.

Wednesday, America voted for four of the first five finalists spots, giving the judges the chance to choose the fifth contestant to advance. Williams says the show has given him a once in a lifetime opportunity and he says he’s grateful for the experience, regardless the outcome of the finals.

“It’s opened many doors for me” said Williams. “If I don’t make it through AGT, it’s opened many doors for me to be successful in life” he said.

The finals round of ‘America’s Got Talent’ begins Tuesday, September 22 on NBC.
