BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Due to the threat of severe weather to the region from late Tuesday night throughout Wednesday, December 14, a number of local institutions and offices are announcing closures as well as sandbag and shelter locations.

A running list of office and institutional closures, shelters, and sandbag locations can be found below.

Ascension Parish

  • State offices in Ascension Parish will be closed Wednesday, December 14
  • Ascension Parish Government offices will be closing Wednesday, December 14 and government administration advises Tier One emergency employees to report to work while Tier Two employees are to remain on standby and work from home if possible. All other employees are advised to work from home if possible.
    • Residents who wish to receive emergency notifications can sign up at everbridge.net.
  • All Ascension Public Schools and offices will be closed Wednesday, December 14. This includes all after-school activities.
  • The 23rd Judicial District Court and Ascension Parish Court will be closed Wednesday, December 14, 2022 due to the possibility of inclement weather. Also, the Ascension, St. James and Assumption Parish Clerks of Court offices will be closed Wednesday, December 14, 2022.

Assumption Parish

No official closures have been announced at this time.


East Baton Rouge Parish

  • All Zachary Community schools and offices will be closed December 14
  • State offices in East Baton Rouge will be closed Wednesday, December 14
  • The Joint Regents/BESE and Regents’ Wednesday, December 14 meetings have been canceled. Officials say the next BOR Meeting will take place Monday, January 9.
  • Southern University will close its Baton Rouge campuses Wednesday, December 14 and plans to reopen them Thursday, December 15.
  • Louisiana State University will be closed Wednesday, December 14. All activities have been canceled, with the exception of the LSU Women’s Basketball game vs. Lamar at 7 p.m. in the Maravich Center. LSU’s campus is expected to reopen Thursday, December 15. In the meantime, the university’s essential employees are instructed to check with their supervisors to confirm whether or not they should report to work Wednesday.
  • The FranU physical campus will be closed Wednesday, December 14 but this is not a University closure as all business operations will be conducted remotely. 
  • Baton Rouge Community College (BRCC) has rescheduled its Wednesday, December 14 pinning ceremonies for fall graduates of the Nursing and Allied Health Division to Thursday, December 15
  • EBR’s City-Parish buildings, including Head Start, will be closed Wednesday, December 14, due to the potential of severe weather. However, the Metropolitan Council meeting will continue as scheduled at 4pm.
  • Baton Rouge City Court will be closed to the public Wednesday, December 14
  • The East Baton Rouge Parish School System has cancelled all classes for Wednesday, December 14
  • All EBR BREC facilities will be closed December 14, until 1 p.m. Weather permitting BREC says regular operations will resume after 1 p.m.
  • Due to the potential threat of severe weather in our region, Pennington Biomedical will be closed on Wednesday
  • Baker City Court closed on Wednesday, Dec. 14, and will reopen on Thursday, Dec. 15 at 8:30 a.m.

  • All Livingston Parish Public Schools will be closed Wednesday, December 14

Pointe Coupee Parish

  • State offices in Pointe Coupee Parish will be closed Wednesday, December 14
  • Pointe Coupee Parish Schools will be closed Wednesday, December 14

St. Helena Parish

  • State offices in St. Helena Parish will be closed Wednesday, December 14
  • All public schools in St. Helena Parish will be closed Wednesday, December 14

West Baton Rouge Parish

  • State offices in West Baton Rouge Parish will be closed Wednesday, December 14
  • All West Baton Rouge Schools will be closed Wednesday, December 14.

West Feliciana Parish

  • State offices in West Feliciana Parish will be closed Wednesday, December 14
  • Schools in West Feliciana Parish will be closed Wednesday, December 14, and classes are expected to resume Thursday.
