Baton Rouge to host three food pick-up events this weekend



BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — There will be three food pick-up events Saturday in Baton Rouge, according to a city spokesperson.

The Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank will kick off the weekend with an 8 a.m. event at Cortana Mall, located at 9401 Cortana Place. This drive-thru food distribution event will feed up to 1,000 local families. Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome and the Louisiana National Guard will be involved in the Food Bank’s event.

Then, from 10 a.m. until noon, local students can pick up boxes of fresh produce via a drive-thru at Capitol High School, located at 100 N. 23rd St. This event’s sponsors are the Capital Area American Heart Association, Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome, HealthyBR, LSU Health, Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Health, Top Box Foods, Baton Roots, Healthcare Centers in Schools, the Huey and Angela Wilson Foundation, Healthy Blue, Home Bank, Capital One, CSRS, Hancock Whitney and Baker Donelson.

The final food pick-up event is a turkey giveaway in which Kalexis Boutique will distribute 250 turkeys in a drive-thru from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Legacy on 14th, located at 1116 S. 14th St.
