A Baton Rouge woman was arrested Saturday for 4th offense DWI and various other charges, according to State Police.

The Louisiana State Police said, “37-year-old Safaria A. Joseph was arrested after a motorist observed her driving recklessly on Bluebonnet Blvd in Baton Rouge and notified law enforcement.”

It happened around 10:00 a.m. on November 17.

LSP said, troopers arrived and found Joseph “in a parking lot on US Hwy 61 at Coursey Blvd.”

Police said she performed poorly on a standardized field sobriety test and was placed under arrest for DWI.

According to the Louisiana State Police, Joseph was combative while in the rear seat of the vehicle.

Once at Troop A, police said, she “became physically combative to Troopers,” including punching the Intoxylizer machine.

Police were able to administer a breath test, which produced a result of .246g%, police said.

While in transport to the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison, police say, she again became combative in the rear of the unit and “banged her head against the interior of the car, causing personal injury.”

Also, she attempted to kick out a window, and even “destroyed official paperwork and a Troopers jacket,” according to police.

Once at the prison, police say, she “was treated for her self-inflicted injuries and then booked for 4th Offense DWI, Reckless Operation, Resisting an Officer, Battery on a Police Officer (3 Counts), Operating a Vehicle while under Suspension for certain Prior Offenses, Simple Criminal Damage to Property (2 Counts), and Self-Mutilation by a Prisoner.”
