After a giraffe was born to 6-year-old mother Rosie and 13-year-old father Rowan at BREC’s Baton Rouge Zoo on Dec. 26, the zoo allowed the public to send in name suggestions for the infant.
The top three name suggestions are Burreaux, Romeo and Kiume, a Swahili term meaning masculine and strong, according to Robyn Lott of BREC’s Baton Rouge Zoo.
The public again has the chance to narrow down the suggestions, and votes will determine which of the three names will be given to the giraffe.
To vote, a donation must be made to the Friends of the Baton Rouge Zoo, and all donations will go toward conservation funding, Lott wrote.
Every dollar donated counts toward one vote, so if someone donates $10, he or she will have 10 votes.
Voting will end Feb. 13, and the zoo will announce the winning name on its social media sites on Feb. 14.
