The public can have a shot at naming the newborn male reticulated giraffe born at BREC’s Baton Rouge Zoo Dec. 26.

The zoo created a naming contest that will accept nominations for the giraffe calf through Jan. 22. Name nominations for the 20th giraffe born at the Baton Rouge Zoo can be sent by clicking here.

Zoo staff will narrow the submissions down to the top three most recommended names, which the public can then choose from. Details for final voting will be announced once the top three names are determined, according Robyn Lott of the Baton Rouge Zoo.

The new giraffe is the firstborn calf of 6-year-old Rosie. His father is 13-year-old Rowan.
