NEW ROADS, La. (BRPROUD) – Residents in Pointe Coupee Parish said goodbye to an iconic restaurant earlier this year.

Big Boys Drive-In closed its doors after 45 years.

Fast-forward a few months and this mainstay in the community is back open thanks to the new owners, Alexis Russo and Micah Meyers.

Russo and Meyers signed the papers and took ownership of Big Boys Inn on April 19.

The duo dated in high school and found each other again 20 years later.

Russo says “As kids we would ‘make the drag’ meaning pass through Big Boys to see who was there and hang out there after games.”

Meyers and Russo have been together for five years and on Monday, May 2, Big Boys reopened for the first time in a few months and with it came a grand response from the community.

Russo said the line was out the door on the first day and it was so busy at the beginning that they ended up being bought out of food on the first three days.

Anyone who shows up for a bite to eat will think that nothing much has changed at Big Boys Drive-In.

Most of the former employees are back and the menu is the same as it was under the former owner, Glenn Guidry.

Mr. Glenn and Kadie are helping the new owners with the transition.

So what motivated Russo and Meyers to take over Big Boys Inn?

Alexis says that her parents are neighbors to Mr. Glenn and she grew up playing with Kadie and Kyle Guidry.

Big Boys Inn is a place Meyers and Russo grew up eating and loving just like everyone else in town.

The mother of Alexis Russo now stops by the restaurant most days to get her Diet Coke.

All of this to say that Big Boy’s Inn is about family and community to the new owners.

When asked what it means to bring back Big Boys Inn, Russo said, “It means that we have come back home to serve our community. We are looking forward to having our nephews and our kids working in the business with us, teaching them the value of hard work and giving back.”
