GONZALES, La. (BRPROUD) – There is some good news to pass on during this time of recovery from Hurricane Ida.
Ascension Parish Waterways are back open and boats can use them knowing that debris is still blocking some waterways.
“Many waterways still have floating debris, although most appears to be settling on the banks,”
said President Cointment. “But with boat traffic that could result in debris breaking lose. Again,
please use extreme caution.”
Boaters may notice a bad smell when they get back on some waterways in Ascension Parish.
Hurricane Ida brought on some fish kills in areas of the parish.
President Cointment says, “the air may be kind of pungent” in those areas.
Boaters should not see any electrical lines in the water, according to the electrical utility companies.
Unlike Ascension Parish, Livingston Parish is not going to open their waterways because they are not considered safe for travel.
