BRAC to call for reinstatement of 24-hour access to Mississippi River Commerce

News

The Baton Rouge Area Chamber (BRAC) Board of Directors today will call for the end of the New Orleans Baton Rouge Steamship (NOBRA) Pilots Board of Examiners’ nighttime restrictions on the Mississippi River, in efforts to make 24-hour commerce available once again.

The meeting will take place at 2:30 p.m. at the Dock at the Water Campus located at 1110 River Rd. South. Members of the BRAC Board of Directors will appeal for the immediate end of the nighttime restrictions on commerce. The restrictions by NOBRA have been observed since the spring of 2019. BRAC will also urge the Governor and state legislators to take action on the issue.

In a recent press release BRAC argues, “Major industry along the Mississippi River depends on reliable and routine access to the river to move goods, and these restrictions are dramatically increasing costs and impacting daily operations for thousands of workers.”
