BATON ROUGE, La (BRPROUD)- Baton Rouge Community College (BRCC) Vice Chancellor for Workforce Solutions, Girard Melancon Ph.D. has been elected by the National Skills Coalition (NSC) to serve as the board Vice Chair.
NSC fights for policies that invest in workers to receive trainings for jobs in their communities—which results in workers having access to better lives and local businesses see sustained growth.
“It is a tremendous honor to be voted in as the Vice Chair. I am excited to have the opportunity to help this wonderful organization continue its growth and positive impact on our business sectors and various citizens throughout the United States,” said Melancon. “The National Skills Coalition Board comprises some very accomplished individuals who have dedicated their lives to building inclusive workforce pathways with businesses and industries across our nation. Every time we meet as a board, I am amazed at what the organization is accomplishing with strategic leadership, staff dedication, and excellent partnerships.”
Dr. Melancon has more than 20 years of experience of working with second-based workforce training programs that serve the needs of the communities in Louisiana. Serving as Vice Chair also allows him the opportunity to develop strategies and other information to share with BRCC and the Baton Rouge workforce community.
In 2019, Dr. Melancon received the NSC Skills Champion Award for his work with policymakers, mentorship of colleagues and developing partnerships to fill the gaps in the workforce needs, according to BRCC.
