BRFD: Attempt to cash in on insurance claim through vehicle fire goes up in flames

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Two men were arrested in connection with an arson fire in the 16000 block of Hamilton Ave.

28-year-old Darius Collar and 21-year-old Leon Wilson were apprehended on Thursday, May 6.

BRFD believes that Collar and Wilson are connected to “a vehicle fire that took place on January 7.”

The 20-year-olds are facing these charges:

Darius Collar

  • One count of Simple Arson

Leon Wilson :

  • Principle to Arson with the intent to Defraud

Wilson owned the vehicle involved in this arson fire.

The 21-year-old “was having vehicle troubles and asked Darius to burn it so he could make an insurance claim,” according to the Baton Rouge Fire Department.
