Three people escape early morning house fire, investigators determine cause of fire to be arson


BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – The Baton Rouge Fire Department responded to a reported blaze at 1237 Fig St. around 5:20 a.m. on Wednesday morning.

BRFD says, upon arrival firefighters saw two homes on fire.

One of those homes was vacant at the time of the fire.

The vacant home was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived at the scene.

BRFD says, “the vacant home where the fire originated is considered a total loss.”

Three individuals were able to escape the home next door unharmed.

The occupied home did sustain $20,000 in damages as well as “heavy fire damage to the exterior of the structure,” according to the Baton Rouge Fire Department.

Fire investigators determined that the cause of the early morning blaze was arson.

This fire took place near I-10 and McKinley Middle Magnet School.
