BRFD puts out fire at vacant Shell Food Mart on Airline Hwy.

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – The Baton Rouge Fire Department was called to a vacant building on Tuesday morning.

Firefighters arrived at what was formally the Shell Food Mart located on 7980 Airline Hwy. around 7:10 a.m.

According to the Baton Rouge Fire Department, “Firefighters arrived on scene to find fire on the exterior wall and extending to the building eave.”

Firefighters immediately went to work putting the fire out with the help of seven total units, four pumpers and one ladder.

BRPD says, “They were able to force their way inside and put the fire out before it could cause more damage inside the building.”

It took firefighters 25 minutes to extinguish the fire and there were no reported injuries.

The vacant structure sustained $100,000 in damages.

Fire investigators determined that the cause of this fire was accidental.

EMS, BPRD and Entergy assisted the Baton Rouge Fire Department at the scene.
