BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Seven people were displaced including three children after an early morning house fire.

Firefighters arrived at the home located in the 3900 block of Elm Dr. and found “fire in the kitchen wall traveling up to the attic,” according to the Baton Rouge Police Department.

It took a little over one hour and ten minutes for firefighters to get the blaze under control.

Seven total units, four pumpers and one ladder were used to fight this fire.

Investigators were called to the scene and determined that this was an accidental fire.

BRFD said, “The occupant stated that they had burned some documents earlier that evening.”

The leftover ashes were taken outside and they are what started the fire.

The fire caused $23,000 in damages.

BRPD, EMS, Entergy and The Red Cross assisted the Baton Rouge Fire Department at the scene.
