BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – The Baton Rouge Fire Department was called to a reported vacant building fire around 4 a.m. on Friday morning.

BRFD said “Firefighters arrived on the scene to find the vacant duplex with heavy fire near the front.”

Firefighters immediately went to work trying to put the fire out with the help of seven total units, six pumpers and two ladders.

Hazmat was requested because this was a two-alarm fire.

Firefighters were able to get the fire under control and keep it from jumping to other homes in the area.

BRFD said that no one was hurt in this fire.

The vacant building is considered a total loss and sustained $105,000 in damages.

For a period of time, Scenic Hwy. remained closed between Townsley St. and Sparrow St.

According to the Baton Rouge Fire Department, the building was just purchased and the investigation into this fire remains ongoing.

The Holy Trinity Christian Church used to be located at this address.

EMS, BRPD and Entergy assisted the Baton Rouge Fire Department at the scene.
