She’s your typical southern belle with a lot of charm who just happens to be a Sports Illustrated swimsuit model. You know, the girl next door who seems to get along with just about everyone and even has a few hidden talents that many would be shocked to discover.

Brooks Nader is a Baton Rougian who’s life instantly became a fairytale after a summer internship in NYC. Nader says she just “fell” into the industry and hasn’t looked back since. This beauty was once a college student who studied finance and as she says, “It just didn’t work out.”

The 2015 graduate of Episcopal High School spent her high school days on the dance team and was involved in a program called “Thrive” that mentored and tutored inner city kids. The busy bee has been traveling non-stop since the issue released last week and we were able to catch her during some downtime to get the scoop on her modeling career.

If you haven’t seen the latest issue of Sports Illustrated, she appears as one of the six finalists who were chosen after a model search in Miami last July. The shoot took place in the land of some of the world’s most beautiful beaches–Paradise Island, Bahamas.

When the editors of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit skyped her to share the news, she was in utter disbelief. “I couldn’t believe it,” says Nader. “I got really emotional and when the call was over I couldn’t even call my mom because I was crying so hard and hate talking to my parents when I’m crying because it makes it more emotional.”

We asked Brooks who was her biggest modeling influence and she named none other than modeling pioneer Christie Brinkley. “Christie Brinkley was always a big inspiration for me. She actually was a part of the interview process. It was crazy to be face to face with her and have her be a part of the whole process.”

She went on to discuss how Brinkley’s advice has helped her progress in her career. “You have to remember that modeling is a job, like any other, you have to show up on time, be professional, and if you’re freezing, shooting in a bikini in the snow or tired, power through it with a smile on your face.”

Brooks is driven by support from her family and community. She admits that it’s really hard being away from her three younger sisters and parents. She said, “We went from spending every day together to seeing each other once every couple months which has been difficult. But they’ve been so supportive of me every step of the way.”

We wanted to get a little up close and personal with Brooks, so we asked her for five fun facts people would be shocked to learn about her. Here were her answers:

1.) She’s obsessed with eating jalapeños from the jar.

2.) She can cross her eyes for 5 minutes.

3.) She hates when people call her BROOKE…it’s BROOKS.

4.) She can peel 2 pounds of crawfish in under 10 minutes.

5.) She is super uncoordinated and goofy.
