BRPD Chief Murphy Paul urges community to come forward with information in toddler’s shooting death


Baton Rouge Police are searching for the person responsible for shooting and killing 3-year-old Ivorie Combs.

It happened late Friday, as Combs was riding in a vehicle with her father near South Flannery Road. According to police, another vehicle passed by, opening fire and killing the toddler. Combs’ father was taken to the hospital where he is expected to be okay.

CRIME STOPPERS has announced a reward of up to $5,000 for any information that leads to an arrest. Baton Rouge Police Chief Murphy Paul, says the community has to get involved and speak up.

“My message to the community is to get involved” said Chief Paul. “There is someone out there who is affiliated or associated with the perpetrator of these crimes who have information. We’re asking them to step up and do the right thing” Chief Paul said.

“When we lose a baby, a 3-year-old, to gun violence…that pain, that trauma is hard to explain” said Chief Paul. “That’s the reality of what’s going on in the community. Do the right thing. Pick up the phone. Call” he said.

East Baton Rouge Mayor President Sharon Weston Broome released a statement after the shooting:

What happened tonight is absolutely unacceptable and my heart is heavy. There are too many questions that need to be answered. The Baton Rouge Police Department will thoroughly investigate this case and get justice for the family and loved ones. The community has to honor this child’s life. If you know who did this, please contact the authorities immediately.
