BRPD identifies 18-year-old killed in late night shooting

UPDATE: According to the East Baton Rouge Forensics Laboratory, 18-yar-old Cornell McDuffey died from injuries sustained in the single vehicle traffic crash. McDuffey had no gunshot injuries.

There was a weapon found at the scene, BRPD is still investigating the shooting.

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – The Baton Rouge Police Department is investigating a deadly overnight shooting.

The call came in a little after 11:30 p.m. about “a crash that occurred on East I-10 at Essen Lane.”

Upon arrival, officers found a man with gunshot wounds.

The shooting victim was located in a ‘grassy area.”

The victim is identified as 18-year-old Cornell McDuffey.

McDuffey passed away at a local hospital.

Three individuals were seen trying “to flee the scene on foot,” according to the Baton Rouge Police Department.

Officers immediately detained two the individuals.

BRPD says, “detectives believe the individuals in the vehicle may have been involved in a shooting that occurred in the 2200 block of Balis Dr. shortly before the crash occurred.”
