BRPD makes arrest in Ashby Avenue killing

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The Baton Rouge Police Department has made an arrest in the shooting death of a 35-year-old man that happened early Saturday morning on Ashby Avenue.

Detectives arrested 28-year-old Terrius Brown of South Flannery Road on Saturday night.

He’s accused of unlawfully entering a home in the 13500 block of Ashby Avenue and exchanging gunfire with the victim, 35-year-old Derrick Cavazos of Cypress Lakes, according to BRPD.

Cavazos was found dead at the scene around 3:45 a.m., and Brown went to a local hospital. Upon Brown’s release from the hospital, he will be booked in the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on charges of first-degree murder, aggravated battery and illegal use of a weapon.
