BRPD makes arrest in deadly shooting at Trader Joe’s parking lot

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – The Baton Rouge Police Department arrested 24-year-old Jace Boyd in connection with the shooting death of Danny Buckley in a Trader Joe’s parking lot on August 22.

The LSP Task Force assisted in the apprehension of Boyd.

Boyd is currently in the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison and is facing these charges:

  • Second Degree Murder
  • Illegal use of a Weapon

What happen at the scene?

Buckley was panhandling for money in the Trader Joe’s parking lot when he approached Boyd in his vehicle, according to LSP.

Buckley then approached a woman in the parking lot asking for money again.

At some point, Boyd approached Buckley and asked the 61-year-old man to leave people alone because he was scaring them.

Boyd shot the unarmed victim which led to his death, according to LSP.

What happen when BRPD arrived at the scene?

According to LSP, upon arrival officers were contacted by Boyd when he advised he shot the victim after a confrontation.

Boyd was taken into custody and later released.
