BRPD made an arrest on Thursday in connection to a shooting that occurred in the parking lot of 1150 Terrace St. that resulted in the death of 39-year-old Julius Williams on Jan. 24, 2020.
Cornelius Calloway, 19, has been charged with one count of felony Second-Degree Murder for the murder after he allegedly fired multiple shots at Williams after confronting him in a parking lot.
Police responded to shots being fired and located Williams, the victim, lying in the roadway near the 1300 block of McCalop St. at around 4:40 a.m. Williams had sustained multiple gunshot wounds, but was conscious at the time officers contacted him. Williams told officers that someone came out of an upstairs apartment and confronted him as he removed an item from a disabled vehicle. Williams later succumbed to his injuries.
An eye-witness was able to identify the crime scene and give a physical and clothing description of the shooter. Detectives were able to identify the apartment and find Calloway, who fit the description given by the eye-witness. A warrant was obtained to search the apartment and a listed apartment residence of Calloway at 1251 N. Ardenwood. Police recovered clothing and .38 caliber bullets that matched evidence found at the scene.
An autopsy confirmed that the gunfire came from the .38 revolver recovered from the crime scene. DNA found on the gun identified Calloway as a contributor.
Based on the witness accounts and the evidence found, Calloway was arrested for the Second-Degree Murder of Julius Williams and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
