BRPD task force working to slow the violence in high crime areas

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – It has been a violent summer in the Capital City.

Recent shootings include a double homicide and a deadly overnight shooting.

BRPD says the “most recent tragic activity involved a shooting that injured 7 individuals and the killing of one person at the corner of Plank Rd. and Evangeline St.”

To counter the uptick in violence and large gatherings, Chief Murphy Paul is creating a task force that includes multiple officers.

The large gatherings have been happening “on Friday and Saturday nights in the Plank Rd., River Rd. and Sherwood Forest areas,” according to the Baton Rouge Police Department.

People in those areas should expect a larger police presence between 8 p.m. and 4 a.m.

In that time frame, BRPD expects “at least 30 officers” to be monitoring the area.
