BRPD warns of parking restrictions and safety tips ahead of Spanish Town parade

Throughout Spanish Town, people are transforming their neighborhood with all things pink.

“I’m so excited, it’s one of the best days of the year.”

Kelsea McCrary said, residents who live in the area are used to this time of year — planning for the huge crowds well in advance.

“Early preparations are necessary for us. You know, a lot of the property owners are want to make sure their properties stay safe, stay clean and that they let people know where they can walk and can’t walk” said McCrary.

On just about every street, you’ll see barricades and signs indicating no parking.

“So you want to make sure there are no vehicles on the road because the entire neighborhood turns into a block party.”

Thursday afternoon, Baton Rouge Police issued a notice, alerting the public of parking restrictions.

“We are going to start towing vehicles after 6 a.m. We’re going to give everyone a fair notice and we’re going to tow vehicles off the parade route” said L’Jean McKneely, Public Information Officer for BRPD

McKneely said, it’s also a good idea to get there early. He said, depending on the size of the crowd streets may close earlier than expected.

“We can, and we will if we see there is a high volume of people walking the streets. We don’t want cars passing in and around people because it is a safety issue” said McKneely.

As preparations continue for the pink parade. People said, take notice of what officials are saying because they’re simply trying to keep you safe.

“The streets get so packed, it kind of hard to tell sometimes if you’re on the sidewalk, if you’re on the road or where you are.”
