BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – WGMB, WVLA, and BRProud are partnering with the blood bank Vitalant to host a blood drive Friday, January 14 at the television station from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Vitalant will be accepting both whole blood and “Power Red” donations. Power Red is a method in which only red cells are donated after being separated from other blood components like platelets, which are returned to the body in a saline solution. Vitalant says Power Red donations “double the impact” of donations thanks to the concentration of red blood cells, which can be used to help twice as many patients.

According to Vitalant, every day patients in the U.S. need 29,000 units of red blood cells, 5,000 units of platelets and 6,500 units of plasma.

You can schedule your appoint on the blood drive’s Vitalant page.

The station is located at 10,000 Perkins Road behind the Raising Cane’s across from the Perkins Rowe shopping center.
