Livingston Parish hasn’t seen rain in nine days and may not see it for up to another 10.
Due to this, the Parish has installed a mandatory burn ban affective until further notice. Basic burn bans restrict the use of outdoor burning when the air quality is impaired.
Chief meteorologist Jesse Gunkel says the ban was most likely put in place due to temperatures being in the mid 90’s and the weather being extremely dry.
“With the burn ban in affect we’ve actually had a little bit of a light breeze over the last couple days. If a fire starts obviously that breeze helps to ignite it and possibly spread those flames,” he said.
Gunkel also says make sure to water your lawns and plants as we go through this dry period.
