City of Baton Rouge to offer free tax preparation at four locations

Update (3/31/20): Due to the COVID-19 crisis, free tax preparation has been postponed. It is not known when the service will resume. interview. The state and federal tax return deadline has been extended to July 15, 2020

The City of Baton Rouge is offering free tax preparation through its Voluntary Income Tax Assistance Program, an initiative of the IRS.

Certified tax preparers will be at four locations in East Baton Rouge Parish to assist tax payers.

Eligible candidates must meet the requirement of having a gross income of less than $55,000. Here’s where they can get help with their taxes:

  • The Division of Human Development and Services, located at 4523 Plank Road in Baton Rouge, will offer services Mondays and Wednesdays from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Fridays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. by appointment. For more information about this location, call (225) 358-4561.
  • The Charles R. Kelly Community Center, located at 3535 Riley St. in Baton Rouge, will offer services by appointment on Fridays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Call (225) 357-5013 for more information.
  • The Chaneyville Community Center, located at 13211 Jackson Road in Zachary, will offer services by appointment on Fridays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Call (225) 658-9790 for more information.
  • The Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center, located at 4000 Gus Young Ave. in Baton Rouge, will offer services by appointment on Fridays from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Call (225) 389-7679 or (225) 389-7625 for more information.
