We’re counting down the days until early voting begins for the October 12th election and the city of Central is getting a headstart with a new early voting site.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held Thursday to celebrate the occasion at the Central Branch Library.
This is a milestone for Central being this will be the first early voting site for the area.
Assistant Library Director Mary Stein says residents of central pushed to have the site and spent months trying to get it at the registrar of voters office.
Now with this new site, Stein is optimistic more people will head out during the early voting period.
“One thing about this is we want people to vote. we want people to participate. we want civic engagement, so having multiple places and multiple opportunities to vote. it just makes it so much easier,” says Stein.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at 3:30 p.m.
Mayor-President Sharon Weston-Broome, Secretary of State Kyle Ardoin, and Registrar of Voters Steve Raborn will be in attendance.
Early voting begins Saturday, September 28th through October 5th from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
