WALKER, La. (BRPROUD) — The Walker Police Department will coordinate a seatbelt checkpoint on Saturday May 28, 2022 within the city limits of Walker.

According to WPD, this checkpoint will be in effect from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Walker Police Chief David Addison says, “This Seatbelt checkpoint is being held in conjunction with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Louisiana Highway Safety Commission ‘Click It or Ticket” safety initiative. The Click It or Ticket” program for the 2022 Memorial Day period runs from May 23 – June 5, 2022. During this period, and in addition to this announced checkpoint, the Walker Police Department will be conducting enhanced seatbelt enforcement activities, including extra patrols to identify vehicles with drivers and/or occupants not properly using vehicle restraint systems, including child safety seats.”

Walker’s Police increased seatbelt enforcement is funded by a grant from the NHTSA and LHSC. The grant will fund overtime pay for officers involved with the program, officials say.

The Walker Police Department encourages everyone to drive safely and responsibly using the vehicle restraint system.
