BATON ROUGE, La. (BR Proud) — Traffic backed up for miles along Interstate 10 westbound Wednesday afternoon after a crash involving an 18-wheeler and a sedan. The incident happened around 3:30 p.m. and within 15 minutes, the Louisiana Department of Transportation camera system showed traffic at a crawl passed the I-10/I-12 split to at least Essen Lane.
The truck driver told police he was headed toward Port Allen when the vehicle and semi-truck collided in the center lane of I-10, just above City Park Lake. The passenger’s side of the vehicle could be seen pushed up under the driver’s side of the truck.

By 3:40 p.m., Emergency Medical Services made it to the scene. Traffic was then diverted solely to the far right lane while first responders worked the area.
Just after 4 p.m., the vehicle involved was removed from the crash. Both the vehicle and the 18-wheeler could be seen driving away from the crash with a police escort.
By 4:05 p.m., the interstate was fully reopened.
