BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Walter Rodriguez, 27, of Baton Rouge is accused of using a tablet charging cord to discipline his 8-year-old son.
The victim said that the cord was used on him by his father because he didn’t take a shower when told to do so, according to the affidavit.
A member of the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office began looking into these accusations after the victim’s school alerted authorities about marks on the body of the 8-year-old. The investigator spoke with and saw the injuries on the victim on Wednesday, March 1.
The affidavit states that some of the injuries that were seen on the boy included contusions, abrasions, bruising and broken skin. “There were approximately 11 marks on the back of the victim, some were lines across the back and approximately three marks which were looped,” according to the affidavit.
The investigator then spoke with two people who live in the same home as Rodriguez and the 8-year-old boy. They told investigators they could hear the victim being hit in a room on Monday, Feb. 27.
Rodriguez confessed to hitting his 8-year-old son and told detectives that the boys had been lying and getting in trouble at school, according to the affidavit. Rodriguez said he used a charging cable to discipline his son and went too far.
Rodriguez was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on Thursday, March 2, and charged with cruelty to juveniles. He remains behind bars on a $2,500 bond.
