ZACHARY La. (BRPROUD) – Shafton Haney, 50, of Baton Rouge turned himself in to the Zachary Police Department before midnight on Thursday, Feb. 23.

ZPD said, “Haney stated that he was informed by a family member that he had warrants through the Zachary Police Department and wanted to turn himself in.”

Haney was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on Friday, Feb. 24 and charged with second-degree murder, possession with intent to distribute schedule II and possession of a stolen firearm.

The charges stem from an incident on Tuesday, Jan. 3. On that date, detectives began looking into a possible overdose at a home on Marshall Street. An overdose victim was found at the home and it was subsequently searched by detectives, according to police.

A search of the home uncovered “drugs, stolen firearms and drug paraphernalia,” according to the Zachary Police Department. Further investigation led detectives to conclude that Haney along with one other person were suspects in this case.

The other suspect in the case was arrested and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on Jan. 10.
