BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – A man is accused of murder after an investigation linked him to a deadly shooting back in December of last year.

The Baton Rouge Police Department says they were called to a shooting at Broadmoor Plantation Apartments on Dec. 19. When officers arrived, they found a male who had been shot. Police say another person who was not shot was found nearby.

Through an investigation, officers learned that the suspect allegedly set up a drug deal and lured the victims in to rob them. One victim died as a result of the incident.

According to the Baton Rouge Police Department, Jeremiah Hayes, 23, was identified as the suspect along with another suspect who the police only identified as “CJ.” Arrest documents say that the suspects gave an accurate account of events that matched with witness statements, footage of the incident and texts between the two suspects.

Hayes was booked into the EBR Parish Prison on Thursday and charged with first-degree murder.
