CENTRAL, La. (BRPROUD) — On Tuesday, Jan. 3, the Central Police Department recovered two vehicles that were reported missing from different cities in Louisiana within hours of each other.

According to CPD, while investigating a separate incident, an officer found a parked vehicle without a license plate in the Old Sullivan area around noon. After running the car’s VIN number, it was discovered that the vehicle was stolen from the Lafayette area. The vehicle was seized and returned to the owner.

Central Police Chief Roger Corcoran says around 3:30 p.m. that same day, a Flock camera notified authorities of a stolen vehicle entering the city limits from the New Orleans area. Central Police units requested to attempt a pursuit but were not successful due to weather and traffic conditions. While still tracking the vehicle, the suspect appeared to have left the vehicle running and left it at Frenchtown and Central Thruway. The suspect evaded police, although K-9 units were involved. The vehicle was then processed for fingerprints and evidence in hopes of finding the suspect’s identity.

This is an ongoing investigation.
