WEST BATON ROUGE PARISH, La. (BRPROUD) – A Baton Rouge man was apprehended after a chase on I-10 in West Baton Rouge Parish. The chase started after the suspect allegedly failed to stop when asked by members of the Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office said in a news release that a woman and a baby were in the vehicle when it veered off of the interstate to avoid hitting spike strips. The suspect, Quentin Vezia, 37, was the only one who tried to flee. Officials said Vezia jumped from the moving vehicle, which ran over his leg before it crashed.

All three were taken to the hospital. IPSO said Vezia was taken to a hospital for treatment and the other two for observation.

According to IPSO, a search of the vehicle found 2.2 pounds of methamphetamine and 3.2 pounds of marijuana. IPSO said the drugs had a street value worth around $19,000.

Authorities also searched through a home in Baton Rouge that belonged to Vezia after obtaining a warrant. “Distributive amounts of cocaine, heroin/fentanyl, Xanax, and Adderall were seized from Vezia’s residence,” according to the sheriff’s office news release.

IPSO said multiple agencies have warrants out for the arrest of Vezia and those will be executed when he is let out of the hospital.
