LIVINGSTON PARISH, La. (BRPROUD) – Nicholas Cody Flanagan, 27, of Maurepas was found guilty by a jury inside the 21st Judicial District Court.
After four hours on March 30, the jury decided that Flanagan was guilty of two counts of sexual battery of a juvenile under 13, according to a news release.
He will be sentenced on Wednesday, May 10. Each count of sexual battery of a juvenile under 13 comes with a potential sentence between 25 and 99 years.
The conviction stems from an incident that took place in 2022. Flanagan was arrested on Tuesday, March 1, 2022, after an investigation into a possible sexual assault, officials said. Flanagan’s partner “reported seeing Flanagan in a state of undress outside within view and close proximity of a minor,” according to the 21st Judicial District Attorney’s Office. The partner alleged that Flanagan tried to hide. Flanagan claimed that he was going to the bathroom outside.
Investigators made contact with the victim in this case. The victim said that Flanagan forced them to touch his genitals for at least the past year, and Flanagan had touched the child’s genitals on two occasions, according to the 21st Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
Officials said with the help of forensic interviews, investigators found enough evidence to arrest Flanagan.
