BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Days after a seven-year-old girl was attacked and killed by a pitbull, the attorney representing her family revealed new information related to the case.

According to attorney Samuel C. Ward Jr., the attack occurred while Sadie Davila was playing “fashion show,” a game that involved modeling princess outfits down a makeshift runway. Walking the “runway” meant exiting the home through a side door, walking outside, and then re-entering the home via its front door.

Ward said this was a game the seven-year-old had played multiple times on previous occasions. On the Friday of the attack, she was modeling outfits for her grandmother and at least two other people.

But at one point during the game, as Davila walked outside, Ward said, “the vicious, unrestrained pitbull attacked her causing serious injury. This brutal attack occurred in a matter of seconds and family members rushed to her aid.”

Despite the attempts of family members and later, the attempts of healthcare professionals, Davila succumbed to her injuries hours after the attack.

In Ward’s Sunday, Jan. 8 news release, he asked that the public give the family space and privacy, which will allow them to grieve.

His news release said, “While there may be a time and place in which the family may wish to make a public statement or give an interview, now is not that time.”

Ward’s statement went on to say, “The family appreciates all of the prayers and well wishes which have been extended by the community.”

The dog’s owner, Erick Lopez, 20, was arrested and booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on a charge of negligent homicide. His bond was set at $7,500 Monday. He has since bonded out of jail.
