BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – One person was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries after a shooting in the 400 block of Bellewood Drive, according to emergency responders.

Our Lady of Mercy Catholic School was briefly put on lockdown “out of an abundance of caution.” This message was sent from the principal of the school to parents:

Parents,

Today around 9:00am I was notified that gunshots were heard at the neighboring apartment complex. We advised all teachers and students to remain indoors, and shortly after this advisory our school resource officers recommended that our school go under lockdown out an abundance of caution while the situation was assessed in the area. It has been determined that campus is safe and there is no threat to our campus. Lockdown has been removed and we have returned to normal on campus.
Our teachers and students acted quickly and followed all protocols that are in place for safety.
Thank you for your prayers, we certainly felt them.

Sincerely,
Allyson LaBorde
Principal
