GRAND BAYOU, La. (BRPROUD) – A man and woman from Livingston Parish were taken into custody after a recent traffic stop. Duane D. McClendon, 52, of Walker and Yamirka Giglio, 37, of Walker were stopped by a deputy with the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office on Sunday night.

The stop was made after the deputy saw the vehicle containing the duo commit traffic violations. APSO said those violations were failure to dim headlights and improper lane usage.

“As the deputy approached the Grand Bayou Bridge, he observed the front seat passenger throw an item out of the vehicle which bounced off of the bridge railing and back into the lane of traffic,” according to the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office. APSO confirmed that the item was not recovered by investigators.

APSO said that both McClendon and Giglio were not compliant and the deputy suspected the duo could be involved in criminal activity. A K-9 was called to the scene of the traffic stop and a search was conducted.

“Deputies seized a significant quantity of methamphetamine as well as assorted paraphernalia,” according to the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office. APSO said that over a dozen gram packages of meth were seized by deputies.

The duo was arrested and charged with these crimes:

Duane D. McClendon:

  • Obstruction of Justice
  • Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
  • Resisting an Officer
  • Failure to Dim Headlights
  • Driving on Roadway Laned for Traffic

Yamirka Giglio:

  • Obstruction of Justice
