Criminals targeting unlocked vehicles in Livingston Parish

News

“To know that there is someone literally roaming the streets trying to steal from us, it’s scary.”

This video captures it all, a pair of thieves in the night.

“No one deserves to invaded or violated.”
“It’s really scary, my husband and I are both elderly.”

People in Livingston Parish said, seeing what is happening while they are sleeping is frightening.

“It’s scary, it’s very scary. There are quite a few homes that are owned by single women, single parents with young children.”

The Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office said, two people pulled on several car doors in three neighborhoods. The pair, believed to be men, made off with valuables including a laptop and prescription drugs.

“Leave us alone, get a job and work to get what you want. Leave ours alone because we work very hard for what we have.”

A woman who wished to remain anonymous said, her community is close knit and they never imagined anything like this happening.

“We have a sense of security here. We feel that if the garage is left up at night no one is going to come in. If something is left in your car, no one is going to take it.”

She said, seeing the video will now make her change her routine in hopes of being safe from criminals like this.

“From now on, I’m going to make sure that his car is locked and he’s leaving nothing in the car that would entice someone to break-into it in the first place.”

LPSO experts suggest the following safety measures for all Livingston Parish citizens:

  • LOCK you vehicles
  • Remove all valuable (or, place those valuables out of sight)
  • If you home is equipped with motion lights, make sure they are in working order and pointed in the direction of your vehicles
  • If you have surveillance video equipment, make sure it’s set to record movement and that it’s pointed in the direction of your vehicles
  • Report any suspicious activity to LPSO at (225) 686-2241 x1
