BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – It has been eight days since the death of 2-year-old Nevaeh Allen was ruled a homicide by the East Baton Rouge Coroner’s Office.
Since then, Lanaya Cardwell, the mother of Allen, and her boyfriend, Phillip Gardner have been arrested in connection with this case.
On Oct. 5, the Department Of Children & Family Services confirmed that an investigation into the death of Nevaeh Allen is ongoing.
DCFS provided this statement about the investigation:
“We can confirm that we have an open case involving the death of this child. Because there is an open criminal investigation and we are cooperating with law enforcement, we are unable to comment further at this time.”
As of 12 p.m. on Tuesday, both Lanaya Cardwell Philip Gardner remain in the East Baton Rouge Parish Jail.
