BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – The Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services made an announcement about Summer PEBT benefits on Tuesday.

The Summer PEBT benefits are available to eligible students starting on Wednesday, September 7.

DCFS estimates that it will give out almost $161 million in benefits this summer.

That is between four and five times more than was issued during the 2021-2022 school year.

So how much would your child receive from DCFS?

“For Summer #PEBT, each eligible child will receive payments totaling $391 to cover both June and July,” according to the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services.

Your child would receive one installment in June and the second in July.

DCFS said that one installment would be for $195 and the second would be for $196.

So how can recipients expect to receive their Summer PEBT benefits?

DCFS said, “Summer PEBT benefits will be issued on Louisiana Purchase EBT cards in each eligible student’s name.”

If you used a Louisiana Purchase EBT card over the last two school years, benefits should should show up on that card.

According to Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services, “beginning this week, DCFS will process eligibility information for Summer PEBT each Tuesday evening and the benefits will be available to those students on Wednesdays of the same week.”

DCFS said that Child Care PEBT recipients can expect their benefits before Winter.

DCFS asked that recipients keep an eye out on the P-EBT Parent Portal for any updates.

The P-EBT Parent Portal is also where parents can keep up with their child’s case and ask for a new card.

If you need a new card, you can also call 1-888-997-1117.

It is important to note that your benefits will go away if they are not used after 9 months.

The Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services provided details about this below:

Under new federal rules, federal food assistance benefits will be expunged or removed, from a recipient’s EBT card nine months after the benefits are issued or nine months from the last time the card was used to make a purchase. If the card is used, the benefits will remain on the card for nine months from the date of the last purchase. Once benefits have been removed, they cannot be added back to the card.
