DENHAM SPRINGS, La. (BRPROUD) — Corporal Shawn Kelly left his mark on the community by being helpful, kind, and hard-working. Families and friends chose to honor him with a fundraiser that felt more like a celebration of life.

“We were originally just going to cook a big pot of jambalaya but with the benefits that we’ve done before in the past and the community coming together, they just kept piling up to more fun stuff,” said Brandin Cavin, event organizer.

With more people pitching in and contributing towards the cause, organizers ended up with a family fun day. Food vendors kept everyone full while kids played freely with different activities.

The two main attractions were the live music and the car show. Organizers said it was all about keeping people entertained, while still being able to raise money for Cpl. Kelly’s family.

“We’ve always had a tight community, law enforcement community, and just our community, any time it’s time to work, everybody steps up,” said Calvin.

Jennifer Watson owns Stir Ups Mobile Bar. She has been a proud helper of many fundraisers and is honored to be a part of this one.

“Being a police officer, a fallen fellow officer and stuff, we definitely had no doubt that we would come out and help him. We know some of the officers that work for the Denham Springs police department, and so we definitely had to come out here and help him,” said Watson.

This event was set to help Corporal Kelly be well remembered while giving all proceeds to his family.
