“It is a problem, I have
seen numerous people wind up in the ditch.”
Along Dunn Road in Denham Springs, neighbors say, drivers are hitting it hard.
“I thought my goodness, he’s got to be sore he lost control and when he came
out, he gunned it.”
Gail Martin’s family recently put cameras on their home. Since then, they’ve
been seeing more crashes.
“Yes, one of many. We may have missed a lot because we’re not always
looking” said Martin.
Along the road, the speed limit is 25 miles-per-hour. Neighbors said, even with
two speed limit signs, drivers disobey the law.
“It’s constant, even when they repaved the road and whatever I thought
that would kind of give us some relief but it’s gotten worse” said a neighbor.
Martin said, because it happens often, it’s now become a safety concern.
“No we can’t let the kids out front, we can’t let them on and off the bus
or to play out front because cars leave the road and you never know where
they’re going.”
As parts from vehicles that crashed in the ditch remain. Neighbors said, they
just want drivers to slow down and be courteous.
“slow down in a curb like that”
“An overall feeling that I get living on this road is that the traffic is
just too fast for the area. I mean look around, this is a residential area, not
a highway.”
“It very dangerous so I don’t feel sorry for them if they wind up in a
ditch.”
