DENHAM SPRINGS, La. (BRPROUD) – A Denham Springs man was arrested Monday and is accused of damaging two school buses in Livingston Parish. The sheriff’s office says he ran one into a light pole.

The Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office was called to Southfork Elementary, 23300 Walker South Road, on Monday morning.

According to Sheriff Jason Ard, a Dodge Charger drove up to the locked gates at South Fork Elementary between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m. The driver, determined to by Abram R. Jones, 26, of Denham Springs, then exited the vehicle and cut a lock.

“The suspect drove that Charger into the grassy area where the vehicle became stuck,” according to the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Jones reportedly made his way toward two school buses and gained entry into the second bus.

He was able to “start the school bus and drive it into a light pole,” according to LPSO.

The scene was abandoned, and local law enforcement started its investigation within hours. With the help of the community, Jones was soon arrested.

Jones was charged with:

  • Unauthorized entry into a place of business
  • Simple criminal damage to property
  • Theft of a motor vehicle (2 counts)
  • Institutional bandalism
  • Hit and run

LPSO estimates that damages added up to $7,500. The investigation into this incident remains open.
