BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A 41-year-old Denham Springs woman has pled guilty to making and subscribing to false tax returns.

According to the United States Department of Justice, Lakeisha Grayer, 41, pleads guilty to owning and operating a tax preparation business under the name Genesis Tax Service in Baton Rouge. During Grayer’s indictment, it was identified that for tax years 2015, 2016, and 2017, Grayer filed false tax returns for over 950 taxpayers. She also charged her clients a fee for filing their returns.

U.S. Attorney Ronald C. Gathe, Jr. says Grayer reported her income tax from Genesis Tax Service on a form that reports her business’s gross receipts. For the years listed in the indictment, Grayer reported a lower amount of gross receipts to the IRS instead of the actual amount. Grayer underreported her gross receipts for tax years 2018, 2019, and 2020 as well.

The collective amount of tax loss for tax years 2015 through 2020 is over $180,000.
